Tasnim is an award-winning journalist, author and freelance TV reporter. Tasnim became the first hijab-wearing TV reporter in Scotland in July 2020. She has written for a variety of print and online publications including The Huffington Post, Al Jazeera English, BBC, The Guardian, TRT World, BBC Radio 2 and many more.

A wealth of experience in journalism…

Tasnim was awarded the Rising Stars in Media Awards 2018 by FIPP the global network of media. She was the winner of the Muslim News Awards for Excellence 2013 Ibn Battuta Award for Excellence in Media for her investigative, human rights and interfaith journalism.

Tasnim was the first hijab-wearing TV reporter and presenter in Scotland and has gone on to be a freelance TV reporter for STV News, 5 News and ITN Productions Industry News. 

She has a strong portfolio of investigative work from exclusives on the plight of Uyghurs for STV News, to highlighting organ harvesting victims for 5 News and exposing impending attacks on minority groups in Sri Lanka for Al Jazeera which resulted in the attacks not taking place.

Tasnim has also reported on the missing journalists of Sri Lanka, exposed racism in the NHS during the pandemic for Byline Times and covered the Grenfell Tower tragedy in her documentary ‘Grenfell: Voices from the Ground’, highlighting underrepresented voices of those affected by the tragedy. She also worked on a hard-hitting feature highlighting the plight of Uyghur parents who had been forcibly separated from their children in China for The Diplomat and continues to give a voice to underrepresented communities.

Tasnim was a finalist at the Asian Media Awards 2022 for Regional Journalist of the Year and in 2018 for report of the year for her documentary on Grenfell Tower. She was also a finalist for the National Diversity Awards 2021 sponsored by ITV News and Muslim Writers Awards for Young Journalist of the Year 2011 for her articles on CNN on the French ban on the burka and other articles across the breadth of publications that she has written for. Other nominations included being a finalist at the British Muslim Awards 2017 for Muslim Woman of the Year and Asian Women of Achievement Award for services to Media 2012.

Tasnim is a freelance contributor to BBC Radio 2's Pause for Thought segment where she shares her wisdom and wit and also writes scripts and presents social media content for BBC The Social. 

She received the Ambassador for Peace Award from the Universal Peace Federation for her interfaith journalism work in promoting better interfaith relations.

She has been voted as one of the Top 40 Inspirational Muslim Women in the World by American Muslim Magazine ‘MB Muslima’.

Tasnim is the author of the children's books Allah’s Gifts published by Greenbird Book Publishers, Aleena Celebrates Eid and Its Ramadan published by International Islamic Publishing House (IIPH).  She also authored an academic book entitled 'Islamic Finance: A Practical Introduction' published by Kube Publishing.
